"Manaslu Circuit Trek"- A Complete Guide to Nepal's Hidden Gem

Opened in 1992, the Manaslu Conservation Area is one of the most sought-after trekking regions in Nepal! Especially, the Manaslu Circuit trek. With a chance to see over 10 peaks above 6,000m (19,685ft)! The trek starts similar to that of the Tsum Valley trek, with a drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola. From here the Manaslu trail begins and we spend the first few days trekking along the Budi Gandaki River. From the town of Jagat, we head northwest towards Deng and make our way further up to Samagaun. The Manaslu Circuit Trek requires acclimatization to prevent Acute Mountain Sickness and that’s what we’ll do at Samagaun. A few more days of trekking take us to Larkya Base Camp (4,460m/14,628ft). This is our last stop before crossing the famous Larkya La Mountain Pass at 5,170m (16,962ft)! The views are stunning from up there. And you’ll be able to see some of the highest mountains in the world. After crossing the Pass we descend to Bhimtang and make our way to the Annapurna Conservation Area. The trail descends all the way down to Bhulbhule from where we catch a ride back to Kathmandu. Although the trekking part of the Manaslu Circuit trek is over, now you can make a sightseeing tour through Kathmandu to see some of its most famous landmarks. A great way to end this unforgettable experience!

The maximum elevation of the trek is Thorong-La Pass at 5,170m (16,962ft).

Group size required for the tek

Manaslu Circuit Trek is a restricted area. So, to trek in that route a restricted area permit issued by the Department of Immigration is required. As per the rules of the Government of Nepal, a minimum of 2 people is necessary for the trek. 

Level of the trek

The level of this trek is advanced; meaning trekkers who have quite good physical fitness can do it easily.

Meals and Accommodation

In the mountains to make your body stable the tea house and lodges provide the local Nepali food Dal-Bhat with local curry. For accommodation, a 5/4 star hotel in Kathmandu and a tea house/lodge during the trek. 

Note: It is better to take some chocolate or other snack items from the city or you can also buy it during the trek.

Starting and ending points of the trek

The starting day is in Kathmandu, whereas, the starting point of the trek is from Soti Khola, and the ending point is in Bhulbhule where our trek concludes. 

Trip Route

There are several routes that different travel companies use on their respective trekking packages but the popularly used route is:

Kathmandu - Soti Khola - Machhakhola - Jagat - Deng - Namrung - Samagaun - Samdo - Larkya Base Camp - Bhimtang - Tilije - Tal - Syange - Bhulbhule - Kathmandu

Best Season

The 365 days in a year is perfect for traveling in Nepal. However, usually, backpackers prefer to travel when the weather and nature are in harmony and when there are more blooming flora and green fauna in nature. So, the high seasons such as Mar-May and Sep-Dec are preferred.
