Everest Dudhkoshi Cultural Trail

The Everest Dudhkoshi Cultural Trail, located in the Solukhumbu district, is a recently discovered virgin trail. From the joint initiative of Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality, Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). It stretches from Kaya on Dudhkoshi River at 940 meters (3,084 feet) above sea level to the viewpoint of Aran Hill at 3,310 meters (10,860 feet). This trail offers a serene Himalayan experience for all age groups and seasons.

Along this trail, you will witness more than a dozen snow peaks, including the majestic Mount Everest with an elevation of 8,848.86 meters (29,032 feet). The route is adorned with dense forests of Lali gurans (rhododendron), Nepal's national flower, as well as diverse wildlife, birds, herbs, plants, beautiful villages, and Indigenous communities such as Rai, Sherpa, and Tamang. The cultural attractions like gumbas (monasteries) and temples add to the richness of this trail.

While not everyone can reach the highest peak in the world, this trail allows you to get up close to Mount Everest. Compared to other treks in the Everest region like the Everest Base Camp Trek, this route is easier and suitable for people of all ages. It is particularly targeted towards those who cannot reach the base of Mount Everest but still provides a heavenly experience for hikers. Whether you choose to travel with family and friends or venture alone, there are several major hike places and viewpoints along this trail such as Silguri Hill, Ratnange Hill, Kudam Point, Yotelmya (Bhote Khark), Damfe Bhir, Zhandi Hill, Jaleshwari Mahadev Temple at Jor Dhunga, Sola Forest, Dhje Hill, and Aran Hill to explore.

How to reach Silguri Hill:

There are two ways to reach Silguri Hill. The first option is to drive from Kathmandu, which takes approximately 12 hours. Alternatively, you can take a public bus or private vehicle to Salleri, the Solukhumbu headquarters, which is around 275 km from Kathmandu. From Salleri, it is about 20 km via a bumpy road to reach Silguri Hill.

You have the flexibility to choose how long or short you want your journey on this trail to be based on your preferences and availability. However, we recommend setting aside a week for this trip. Here is the route we will follow:

Day 1: Travel from Kathmandu to Silguri.
Day 2: Journey from Silguri to Kudam via Varanemer.
Day 3: Continue from Kudam to Yotelmya.
Day 4: Proceed from Yotelmya to Rapchha-Khastap.
Day 5: Travel by Jeep to Bhumesthan.
Day 6: Visit the beautiful waterfall called Sundar Jharana in Pasdha, Mahbhir through Silguri. Then return to Kathmandu.

Things to be aware of before embarking on the trek:

The Lower Everest Cultural Trail trek offers a relatively easy journey through the stunning Himalayan landscape. However, there are a few important things to keep in mind during your trek.

Firstly, the weather in this region is known for its unpredictability. It is essential to be prepared for changing weather conditions throughout your journey.

As the trail passes through villages inhabited by indigenous communities, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with their culture and lifestyle. This will help you adapt and show respect towards the locals during your trek.

When packing for the trek, make sure to include essential items such as windproof and waterproof jackets and pants, comfortable trekking trousers, hats, gloves, sunglasses, trekking poles (if needed), sturdy hiking boots or crampons (optional), water bottles, snacks like chocolates for energy boosts along the way, and a basic first aid kit.

The majority of the trail traverses through Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality, Sotang Rural Municipality Solu Dudhakunda Municipality Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality, with occasional touchpoints in other local areas.
